LEADERSHIP. ENERGY. ETHICS. COMMITTED TO COMMUNITY.
My name is John Salka, and in November of 2018, I was elected to my first term as the New York State Assemblyman for the 121st District.
I began my elected public service over 18 years ago as a non-partisan school board member of the Brookfield Central School District. I was honored to have been selected president of the board four of the seven years I served our district. In 2007 I was elected Supervisor of the Town of Brookfield. We overcame the opposition minority party's 18-year incumbency.
During the high pace of campaigns and the rigors of public life, I am reminded of my mother who worked tirelessly to provide for my sister and me. For her, a job providing for elderly parents had to take priority over finishing high school. As a mother left to raise two children, she worked in factories to provide for her family, and keep us together. Her work ethic inspired me to always strive for a better life for myself and my family. I feel I share this quality with the community of the 121st; we are all hard working people.
I was the first in my family to earn a college degree. With two jobs, I worked my way through, and achieved a career as a licensed medical professional. For years, I also managed my own business, and learned what it is like to make payroll, and deal with the challenges of doing business in New York State. I am a dedicated supporter, and would be a proud representative of local business in our area.
Working as an executive official, and as an appointed legislative committee leader, I approach each responsibility with an open mind. I work for solutions that benefit the public at large and am a strong advocate for the citizens of our area. I have, and will continue, to work tirelessly to save hard earned taxpayers’ dollars for their family budgets.
We have been residents of the Town of Brookfield for 27 years. My wife Erin and I have raised two children here, and have worked hard to be part of the community. It is this sense of community that provided much support when we tragically lost our 22-year old daughter Emily to brain cancer in October of 2015. Our deep faith in God, and our ability to know that friends and family throughout the region were there when we needed them was a comfort to us in a very difficult time. I have dedicated my campaign to Emmy, and will work tirelessly to represent the people of the 121st Assembly district.
Together we can bring new energy and the enthusiasm needed to revive the counties of the 121st Assembly District. Together we can make this happen. Thank you!
Very truly yours,
John J. Salka
