ISSUES - OUR 121st District

ETHICS REFORM

Albany is awash in backroom deals that get made behind closed doors. I will push hard for transparency and equal representation for all New York residents, regardless of political affiliation.  I will work to pass meaningful ethics reform and will not hesitate to challenge the political elite in Albany to open the Public's doors, and bring in fairness and transparency to our legislative process.

TRANSPARENCY  *   EQUAL REPRESENTATION  *  MEANINGFUL ETHICS

HEALTHCARE REFORM

As a licensed medical professional for over thirty years, I have a working knowledge of what is needed for better health services for the people of the 121st assembly district. I will work to increase the school-based health centers, so that our young people will have access to good-quality care. There is a high need for programs that treat the number of childhood chronic diseases. For our senior citizens, I will work to institute programs that increase the level of medical literacy, so that our older generation will be able to better understand their medications, and how to take them. My goal will be to improve the delivery of health care to our rural areas by working with hospitals and clinics throughout the region.

EDUCATION REFORM

As a former school board president, I understand the needs of our schools, and in particular our high-needs districts. Common Core must be repealed. Its implementation was a disaster.  Integrated ciricullum must be considered as we head back to the drawing board when it comes to educating our young people. In order to make sure our teachers have the tools and funding they need and I will call for an increase in Foundation Aid.  Special education will be another one of my priorities, and I will work hard to make sure EVERY student gets a fair and equitable education.

AGRICULTURE

Agriculture is the backbone of the upstate economy, and I will work tirelessly to make sure that our farmers have every availability to market their product downstate, and I will advocate for product diversity in our agricultural community. We are seeing an expansion in the growing of hops and organic farming in our region, and these operations need to be encouraged and supported. I will make sure that our agricultural community is represented by an assemblyman with the energy and ideas to support our farmers, and provide a strong voice in Albany.

SMALL BUSINESS

As a former small business owner, I am familiar with rules and regulations that make it very difficult to do business in New York State. The high cost of worker compensation, disability and liability insurance, and outdated legislation like the Scaffold Law, make New York’s business climate uninviting, and stifles growth. I will work to repeal the Scaffold Law, and push for worker's compensation reform. I do not support the $15.00 per hour minimum wage.  It is my firm belief that if businesses are allowed to flourish and grow, increased wages will follow.  The$15.00 minimum wage will wreak havoc on our farmers and small businesses.

REPEAL OUTDATED LEGISLATION * COMPENSATION REFORM * SUPPORT OSHA

NY SAFE ACT

I  firmly believe that the NY SAFE Act needs to be repealed. It has been shown to be ineffective, and does nothing to stem gun violence. It was passed in the middle of the night with virtually no input from the public, and lacked meaningful input from our elected representatives.

REPEAL THE NY SAFE ACT
